Restructuring Urban Outskirts Industrial Areas from the Industrial Clustering Perspective: A Case Study in Shunde, China

Large numbers of industrial zones have emerged in the urban outskirts developing countries. Generally, these become economically efficient and environmentally unfriendly due to a lack regulation poor planning. Therefore, restructuring underperforming areas is urgently needed. However, most processes lead economic social issues, such as deindustrialization unemployment. this study proposed framework specific tested it case Shunde, China. In framework, securing existing cluster given sufficient attention, retained firms are relocated dedicated resettlement sites before demolition begins. As result, clusters were successfully maintained after restructuring. Moreover, introduction vertical factories allows for additional land supply improves environment great extent.
